Fresh Ideas to Redecorate Your House for Wellness

This year, in addition to making the usual resolutions to exercise more and to eat right, think about doing something different. Make a resolution to create a healthier, more stress-free living space. Making just a few changes in your home can make your entire life happier and more comfortable all year long. Here are a few ideas to get you started.
Whether you want to redecorate your whole house or just parts of it, you’ll do best to start with one room first. And there are a few things to consider when picking your first room. Which room you start with may depend on the time and resources available to you. If you are doing it yourself, and don’t plan on spending a lot of money on the project, you may want to start with the easiest room. The ease of the room depends on factors such as: how much needs to be changed, how often you use the room, will you need to relocate to another space while the redecoration project is under way, how many pieces of furniture are involved and how many little decorative pieces will you need to move around? The more items that need to be moved around, the higher the level of stress you will feel during the redecorating process.
When redecorating for wellness, generally speaking, less is more. Sometimes all the beautiful pieces around our homes that we acquired over the years can outlive their charm. They can end up dominating our lives, and draining us of our time and energy. Look around the room and see which items you can stand to part with, and put these in a box to be “donated or tossed”. Once you have eliminated all that you can, then decide on the items you want to use in this room. The rest of the items can be put away to be used in another room. You are now ready to start redecorating.
If you have the time and resources to paint the walls, then start there. If repainting is not in the plans, then focus on adding an accent color to the room that compliments your wall color. Accent color means it is a color that repeats itself in all the accessories in the room. Keep in mind pastels usually calm the nerves, and bright colors activate our senses. Decide what mood you want to evoke in the room. Happy feelings are often achieved by adding the colors yellow, orange and red. Calmness is achieved with light blue, pink or green. Switching out draperies, wall art, pillows, cushions or a soft throw is the easiest way to change the look and feel of the room. Adding fresh flowers once a week, if your budget allows it, is an excellent idea as well. Finish off your room by adding an air freshener of your liking. If you are organized, you can redecorate a room in one weekend or less.
