Positive Thinking, Positive Results
By Barb Brathwaite, RN MSN CS
When you think positive, it has an amazing effect on your life. It helps you to see the brighter side of things, even when everyone around you is miserable. Positive thinking can have an impact on weight loss too, because your thoughts can inspire and motivate you to achieve your goals.
Negative thinking can lead to negative behaviors that can sabotage your successes. Playing those negative tapes can lead to feeling down and upset. And then it’s easy to go back to old, comforting behaviors such as picking and overeating to feel better.
But no matter how much we try to stay positive, negative thoughts will still occur. But, when they surface, look at them. Can you see where they are coming from? Try to understand them. Accept them and move on. If you can understand and control negative thinking, the positives will arise and positive results will follow.
Try to practice, ‘an attitude of gratitude’. Think about the positive things you have in your life.
Focus on your healthy eating, instead of unhealthy eating. Focus on the changes you’ve made and the goals you have reached. Yes, we all go off track and turn to old, unhealthy behaviors. Don’t beat yourself up. Accept it and love yourself.
Paying attention to the positive things will increase your self esteem and confidence. You will be inspired.
Positive thoughts produce positive self talk, positive feelings, and then positive behaviors results.
Negative thoughts produce negative self talk, negative feelings, and negative results. Changing negative thoughts in a compassionate, non-judgmental way will create self love and self acceptance. Then you will be able to view yourself with love, compassion, and respect. This, in turn, will motivate you to keep on working towards those goals. And in time, those around you will feel the positive energy and want to respect you as well as spend more meaningful time together.
