Nutrition and Stress
By Helen Hussey, RD LD
Why do we eat what we eat? With all of the added daily stressors, who wants to stand over a hot stove when they get home from a long day at work? Many issues including lifestyle and environment influence what we eat. When we are under stress, it is easy to forget about balanced nutrition. With over half of the American population balancing work with family time, take-out, convenience and readymade foods have become much more popular. After having bariatric surgery, taking your time to eat and chew your food properly is very important. When under stress, the “eating rules” can easily be ignored only to cause problems.
Follow these simple guidelines.
Try not to worry about the things that are beyond your control. Stress can be dealt with by setting priorities to make the most of your time. Remember that balanced nutrition and a lifestyle that includes exercise can help you better manage the stress.
